  • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

This software is your protection against malicious software. The Premium version gives you live protection while the free version you need to scan manually yourself. I will check that the latest version is installed and working.

You can find out more about Malwarebytes Anti-Malware here

  • Clean of Malware

I will check when your computer was last scanned for malware issues and if not within the last 7 days will perform a scan of your computer with the latest Malwarebytes products to make sure you have no infections.

  • AVG CloudCare

Firstly I check that you have the latest version installed and secondly that it has the latest virus definition database installed.  If you do not have AVG CloudCare, I will check the software you have.

  • Scheduled Scan Clean

If you are running AVG CloudCare Anti-Virus, then it should be performing a scheduled scan of your computer weekly which I can check from my computer here via an AVG Console which means I do not have to disrupt you but at the same time can make sure you are fully protected and have no viruses.

  • Backup Software

I check what backup software you are using is working and that it is the latest version.

Majority of clients are either using Acronis True Image or Macrium Reflect

If you have no important files that require a backup or want a system restore solution should your computer stop working, then please ignore the X.

Also I check when your last backup was, making sure it has not been too long since your last backup and also that it was successful.

The mistake majority of people make is they trust their backup software!

If you have a laptop and have no restore disks or backup drive, fixing your laptop could costs hundreds of dollars should something go wrong!

  • CCleaner - Installed + Latest Version

CCleaner which stands for Computer Cleaner is a program that I have always trusted to help clients remote temporary files from their computer.  I make sure that it is installed and also up to date.

You can find out more about CCleaner here

  • CCleaner - Cleaned Temp Files + Cache

Although CCleaner should be prompting you to run it and clean your computer, I will always run a clean to make sure there are not a lot of temporary files on your computer.

  • CCleaner - Cleaned & Backed Up Registry

One handy feature of CCleaner is the registry clean.  What tends to happen on all computers is software updates and also gets uninstalled but leaves traces behind in the registry file which then tends to slow down your computer.  I run a registry clean for two reasons:

    1. Clean out links no longer required in your registry file
    2. Back up your registry for added safety

  • CCleaner - Checked Installed Software

Another very handy feature in CCleaner is that it lets you view what software is installed and also running on startup.  I check this list for any issues or unnecessary software.

  • Hard Drive - Healthy

Whether you have a new or old computer, the hard drive is still one of the most important components as it stores your valuable information.  If you have a spinning disk I will run Disk Checker and if you have the newer SSD (Solid State Drive) I will run the manufacturer's SSD monitoring software.

  • Hard Drive - Free Space

Running out of space, especially on the operating partition (C:) can be one of the worst things that can happen as it can lead to your computer no longer booting into Windows.

I monitor this via AVG Service software and will always contact you should there become an issue.

  • Tested + Checked Download Speed

I will always run a speed check and advise should there be an issue with your internet speed.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader

Adobe Reader is possibly the most used bit of software on the internet as PDF files are the format that majority of bills are sent to you in.

It's important to check it is up to date so that you are at least more safe and secure from the latest security breaches.

  • AVG MWP (Service Software)

AVG MWP (Managed Work Place) is the software I use to service your computer and check for issues developing.  It's important I check that it is up to date to give you the best assistance I can.

I normally check this without accessing your computer.

  • Java

There are lots of applications and websites that will not work unless you have Java installed which makes it important to make sure it is installed and up to date on your computer.

  • Teamviewer

Teamviewer is the main software I use to give you remote assistance.  It's very important I check this is up to date for performance along with security reasons.

  • UnChecky

Unchecky protects you when installing software by automatically unchecking unrelated offers, both saving you mouse clicks and making it less likely to miss a checkbox of an unwanted offer.

  • Chrome or Firefox Latest Version

Checking that your web browser, either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox is up to date is possibly the one of the most important checks I perform as internet browsing is definitely the number one use on all computers.

If your web browser is not up to date, you are more vulnerable to browser hijacks and security issues.

  • AdBlocker

Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox have a great feature that they support addons.  One very useful addon is AdBlock Plus which not only attempts to stop adverts loading but also is likely to stop you clicking on a fake message.

  • Addon's

Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox have a great feature that they support addons but this is also how you can be tricked in to installing one that causes you major advertising issues or a major security risk.

I check your addon's to make sure nothing suspicious is installed.

  • Search Engines

Quite often you can be tricked into installing software that changes your default web page and also your search engine.

I check that there are no problems and majority of the time make sure Google is the default search engine.

  • Backed up Favorites / Bookmarks

I make sure your favorites in Internet Explorer, Bookmarks in Firefox or Chrome are backed up for you.

  • Restarted Computer within last 7 days

Possible the most common issue I get with all clients is due to the computer not been shutdown and restarted, they tend to develop glitches.

I make sure the computer has been shutdown and restarted within the last 7 days at least.

  • Belarc Advisor Security Check

The Belarc Advisor builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, network inventory, missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, security benchmarks, and displays the results in your Web browser.

With this check, I can advise if you are missing any major security updates to Windows and also it saves some of your product keys for software at the same time.

  • System Restore

System restore is your quick fix for a lot of little glitches with software or changes to your computer.

I will make sure it is working properly and also create a restore point.

  • Windows Updates

Windows updates are a very grey area with Microsoft Windows as they can fix glitches and plug security holes but on the other hand, can also cause a fault with software.
